The Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC) is commencing efforts to delist its shares from the NSE [13-17 Dec, 2010]

For those of us who missed us last week, apologies. The holiday season putting multiple pressures on work and play has been overwhelming. The market was barely changed this week as the overall mood shifts towards the political in anticipation of elections early next year. The NSE-ASI closed at 24,444.28 -0.78% (+1.46% in the previous week). Volume was up to 1.953 billion shares (1.353 billion shares in the previous week).

The Nigerian Bottling Company(NBC) owner of the coca-cola franchise in Nigerian is commencing efforts to delist its shares on the NSE. This is the equivalent of going private as it is offering a price of N43 per share to all minority shareholders in the company to make its majority shareholder Hellenic sole owner of the company’s shares. This will have significant impact on market capitalizations as it would take N43.3 b (USD288m) off the markets capitalization. It also presents an opportunity for investors willing to take advantage of the +37% gap between NBCs current price and its delisting offer.
